For this rock strumming pattern we will look at downstrokes. This pattern reminds me of something Angus Young in AC/DC would play. A reason you might want to play strict downstrokes in your strumming style is to play only certain strings. This will always be a little heavier sounding and will be reserved more than likely for more aggressive styles of rock. It's very important to keep your forearm and wrist relaxed especially when playing consecutive downstrokes.
